about mirmola

Born in 1978 in Iran, I grew up in a family where art was both a passion and a way of life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Handwoven Carpet Design from Isfahan in 2001, followed by a master’s degree in Handicrafts from Tehran in 2006. Yet, my true artistic education came from a deep reverence for tradition: observing, studying, and meticulously reinterpreting the works of past masters. My creative breakthrough emerged when I sought to forge a personal language, blending the essence of heritage with innovative expressions that reimagine the art of the past for the present.

Artistic Training

• Calligraphy: The interplay of form and rhythm in letters.
• Graphic Design: Harmonizing composition and visual storytelling.
• Pattern Studies: Exploring the symbolic and structural essence of motifs.
• Felt-Making: Crafting raw textures into poetic forms.
• Art Rug Weaving: Innovating traditional weaving techniques into contemporary art.

Design Philosophy

Art, in my view, resides at the confluence of Rug Design, Textile Art, Architecture, Painting, and Graphic Expression. For centuries, textiles—particularly carpets—have served as intricate tapestries of human thought, imagination, and cultural identity. My journey of exploring pattern structures and forms has revealed new visual dimensions, leading to the creation of works that are simultaneously rooted in tradition and expansive in their modernity. These pieces exist in a fluid dialogue between local and global, the familiar and the enigmatic, the past and the future.

Design Approaches

• Sustainability: Merging aesthetics with ecological responsibility.
• Universal Design: Creating art that transcends boundaries and is inclusive in form and function.
• Cross-Cultural Design: Bridging diverse traditions into harmonious expressions.
• Exoticism: Capturing the allure of the unfamiliar through innovative reinterpretation.

Techniques and Methods

My creative process is deeply rooted in extensive research into traditional weaving practices across the East, from the intricate handcraft of India to the storied traditions of Iran and Mesopotamia. This exploration has not only enriched my understanding but has also enabled the invention of new weaving techniques—transforming age-old craftsmanship into contemporary innovation through persistent experimentation and creative risk-taking.
