Mirmola Soraya’s works inhabit the fractures of time—excavating, unearthing, and charting the dissonances of different eras. In these pieces, he does not seek resolution. Instead, it is through these very cracks and temporal misalignments that he crafts a current, redefining the carpet as a contemporary form. By doing so, he establishes a new dimension of Iranian contemporary art: Textile Art.
Soraya weaves traditional fiber arts with elements of contemporary visual culture, merging them seamlessly with the social and cultural concerns rooted in carpet art. These works combine symbols of tradition and modernity into a unified, dynamic landscape.
The contemporary motifs in Sanjagh reflect a profound existential exploration of identity and selfhood, intertwining with ancient symbols. This juxtaposition creates a unique language—one that allows Soraya to engage deeply with both the certainties and ambiguities of Iranian contemporary art. Whether confronting or challenging these ambiguities, he uncovers and presents new possibilities for the modern artistic narrative.
Beyond connecting art to tradition, Soraya’s works reimagine and revive traditional closures in contemporary art, offering a multi-layered practice that reconstructs heritage while embracing modernity.
