description

In the twenty-first century, our lives often unfold in transient spaces—airports, train stations, and banks—where we rarely feel a sense of belonging. These environments become “non-places,” lacking intrinsic meaning, which challenges contemporary design to infuse them with significance.

MirMola Sorya addresses this issue in his carpets, merging design, textile art, and architecture to create a dialogue between contemporary and traditional art. His work features interwoven frames and vibrant, complex patterns inspired by Iranian muraqqa and abstract expressionism, enhancing both aesthetic and meaning.

By obscuring legibility in script-like motifs, he connects historical Iranian art with modern relevance, disrupting linear time and envisioning a future beyond traditional temporality. MirMola’s weaving techniques create a multi-textural, multi-sensory experience that links viewers to various historical moments, embodying trans-temporality. His work transcends linearity, ensuring its lasting legacy in art.
